Athens Grease Festival

Athens, Alabama

About

The Athens Grease Festival is a one-day food festival in Downtown Athens, started in 2012 by Athens Main Street as a fundraiser for downtown revitalization. The theme is a play on the city's Greek namesake and on fried food, and the event draws thousands with toga costumes, a mechanical bull, a frozen turkey toss, contests, live music, and children's art activities. Fried food is the centerpiece — fried pies, fried fruits, and fried bacon dishes — so food vendors working in that lane fit the event's identity most directly. The Southeast Tourism Society named it a Top 20 Event in the Southeast. Note: You must contact this organizer directly to apply—no application link or vendor information is available online.
