Fisher Poets Gathering

About

Held in Astoria each late February since 1998, FisherPoets Gathering draws nearly a hundred poets, songwriters, and storytellers from commercial fishing communities across both coasts. Deckhands, skippers, cannery workers, and shipwrights—new voices and seasoned performers alike—read and perform at pubs, breweries, galleries, and theaters across town. The event has spawned a genre and earned recognition from the Library of Congress as a "Local Legacy" project. Workshops, open mics, singing circles, and visual art by fisherpoets round out the weekend.
