Festival
Little Norway Festival
Petersburg, Alaska
About
The Little Norway Festival runs two to three days each May in Petersburg, centered on Norwegian Constitution Day (Syttende Mai) on May 17. Vendor booths line the downtown streets alongside a food court, with a community parade, locals in traditional bunad, and Vikings and Valkyries roaming the town. The festival reflects Petersburg's founding by Norwegian fishermen over a century ago, and local Tlingit and Haida clan members participate in traditional regalia, layering Indigenous Southeast Alaska heritage alongside the Norwegian traditions. Two practical notes for off-island vendors: Petersburg is on Mitkof Island, reachable only by air or Alaska Marine Highway ferry, and May 17 falls on different days of the week each year, so the festival dates shift accordingly. Strong fit for vendors with Scandinavian or heritage-themed products.
