About
Established in 1976 as a fundraiser to save the old Rose School building, Mountain Makins is held each October in downtown Morristown at historic Rose Center. This Appalachian Folk Life Festival celebrating the unique culture of the Southern Appalachian Mountains is known for high quality crafts and artisans, featuring a juried arts & crafts fair, top regional musical talent, storytellers, authors, craft demonstrations, and children's activities. The juried artisans market showcases handmade goods including clay and pottery, fiber art, fine art, glass, jewelry, leather goods, metalwork, mixed media, musical instruments, and wood turned utensils. Recognized as the "Best Festival in the Southeast" in 2016 and 2019, the festival draws serious shoppers hunting for handmade craft work alongside regional food vendors and strong foot traffic from nearby residents.
