About

Held each October in Independence, Kansas, Neewollah Festival (Halloween spelled backwards) is an annual nine-day celebration — the largest annual festival in Kansas. The town swells to over 75,000 visitors during the final days, a dramatic draw for food and craft vendors. Downtown Independence features more than 30 food vendors, a large carnival, nightly bandstand entertainment, and an arts and crafts show. The festival includes three parades, a Doo Dah Parade (adult variant), a Kiddie Parade, a Grand Parade, chili cook-off, and themed musical. The crafts show features 30–35 booths of distinctive handmade goods. Over 500 community volunteers power the event.
