In its 55th year, the Octagon Art Festival takes place the fourth Sunday of September along Main Street in downtown Ames. Up to 100 juried visual artists exhibit outdoors on pavement (rain or shine), alongside food vendors, children's art activities, and performing arts. Draws around 10,000 attendees. On-site judging awards one Best of Show ($150) and three Honorable Mentions ($100 each). Vendor perks include curbside loading, free parking, complimentary breakfast and beverages, booth sitters, and an artist's lounge at the Octagon Center for the Arts with indoor restrooms.
