Pasadena Chalk Festival
Pasadena, California
About
The Pasadena Chalk Festival is a large outdoor chalk art festival and street fair in Old Pasadena, with 200 chalk murals created by over 500 artists across the weekend. It began in 1993 as "Chalk on the Walk" at Centennial Square, and in 2010 Guinness named it the largest street painting festival in the world, drawing more than 600 artists and a crowd of over 100,000 across one weekend. Artists and design teams come from across Southern California and the country, with leading art schools, museums, and cultural centers represented. Alongside the murals are vendor booths, an art gallery and silent auction, a live DJ, and food vendors. The event is family and picnic friendly, so the crowd stays on site for extended periods rather than moving through. The chalk murals are the draw, meaning vendor booths are a secondary attraction and foot traffic follows the mural route.
