Uncle Earl's Hog Dog Trials

Winnfield, Louisiana

About

Held each March in Winnfield at the Winn Parish Fair Grounds, Uncle Earl's Hog Dog Trials is an annual hog dog baying event involving boars and various breeds of bay dogs including Catahoula Leopard Dogs and Blackmouth Cur. Begun in 1994, the event was named for three-time Louisiana governor "Uncle" Earl Long, an avid stockman and boar hunter who was born in Winnfield in 1895. Now in its 31st year, Uncle Earl's Hog Dog Trials has grown into one of the largest dog trials in the world. Arts, crafts, camping, dog supplies, and food vendors will be at the fairgrounds. During peak years, the event will bring 10,000 people over the course of the week. People attend from as far away as Canada, England, and California.
