Why I Wrote a Page About What Canopy Season Can't Do

There's a page on this site now that lists everything Canopy Season doesn't do. Ten items. No commission, no application portal, no guarantee you'll make money, no promise every listing is accurate. It reads a little like a disclaimer and a little like a confession.

I wrote it because I've been on the other side of this too many times. You find a vendor tool, you skim a homepage full of confident verbs, you sign up, and it takes you three weeks to figure out that the thing you actually needed is the one thing it doesn't do. Nobody lied to you exactly. They just left it out, and left you to discover it on your own schedule.

That's a bad trade for you, and honestly it's a bad trade for me. Every vendor who signs up expecting an application service is a vendor who's going to be annoyed in a month. I'd rather lose them on day one and keep the ones who want what this actually is: a place to find events, see real pricing, read what other vendors thought, and track what you've applied to.

The one I went back and forth on the longest was admitting our data isn't perfect. Directories don't usually say that out loud. But you already know it — you've clicked through to a dead link with a 2024 date on it, probably from us. Pretending otherwise just insults you and makes it weirder when you find one.

Anyway. It's up, it's linked in the footer, and I'd rather you read it before you pay me anything.
