Annual 4848 Festival at Snowshoe Mountain

Alderson's 65th Annual 4th of July Celebration runs for nine days from late June through early July in this historic West Virginia town. The festival features a grand parade with floats, queens, horses, fire engines, and more—plus a firemen's rodeo, 5K run, kids' fishing derby, horse show, poker run, youth bicycle races, live entertainment, and a scavenger hunt. Expect strong community turnout and a full slate of family programming alongside vendor opportunities.

Held in Alderson the Saturday before Memorial Day, this free festival splits action between Sunset Berry Farm and downtown's Alderson Memorial Bridge. At the farm: pick-your-own strawberries, West Virginia craft vendors, food trucks, bounce pad, zipline, working excavators, fairy garden scavenger hunt, and evening live music (typically hard-rock band GRIT). Bridge area draws additional vendors, food, and music throughout the day. Running 10+ years as a partnership between the town, Alderson Main Street, and Sunset Berry Farm.

Held each June in downtown Buckhannon, Almost Heaven BBQ Bash is West Virginia's largest KCBS-sanctioned BBQ competition, drawing nearly three dozen teams from 16 states competing in a four-meat category. Beyond the competition, the festival features food vendors serving award-winning BBQ, pizza, funnel cake, WV pepperoni rolls, and more — plus artists and crafters selling hand-crafted jewelry, soaps, wood items, and homemade goods. Held in Beckley at the Exhibition Coal Mine & Youth Museum in New River Park, the Appalachian Festival draws thousands annually to tour the underground mine (guided by veteran miners), explore recreated coal camp buildings, and visit the Youth Museum. Held the third weekend of July in Huntington at The Robert Newlon Airpark, Appalachian Blues Festival is a three-day celebration of Appalachian blues featuring local and regional musicians and artisans. Held each October in Canaan Valley, ArtOber Fest is an annual event at Timberline Mountain featuring an art market of local art vendors and the ArtSpring Silent Auction. Held annually over Memorial Day weekend, ArtSpring Festival spans Davis and Thomas, WV with the Davis Art Market, free theater, the Art Barn WV Open House, film screenings, studio tours, and live music at local venues. Saturday and Sunday anchor the Davis Art Market from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with local paintings, ceramics, photography, wearable fiber arts, and handcrafted objects. Thomas and Davis represent a quietly remarkable cultural reinvention in Appalachian history: a community of working artists, independent brewers, gallery operators, and craft businesses that draws regional and national audiences. In 2011, Tucker County artists created ArtSpring to connect the public with the area's diverse and talented art communities.

Held each August in Elkins City Park, Augusta Heritage Festival is a free annual celebration of traditional music, dance, and regional craft — the grand finale to the summer class sessions. The juried craft fair features regional artisans alongside live music on two stages, workshops, craft demonstrations, jam sessions, and children's activities. Expect open bluegrass, classic country, and old-time jams throughout the day, plus an evening "Augusta Block Party Honky Tonk" featuring artists from across the country.

Running 30+ years in Union, held each September at the WVU Willow Bend Agricultural Innovation Center just south of town. This rural Monroe County celebration showcases the region's agrarian heritage with live bluegrass and gospel music, produce and quilt competitions, craft vendors, food vendors, antique tractor show, and games including hay bale tossing and corn hole. Free admission draws a community-focused crowd looking to mark the end of the harvest season.

Having hosted guests to the area for over 35 years, the Autumn Harvest Festival & Roadkill Cook-off is held every last full weekend of September in downtown Marlinton. Local and regional culinary teams compete in a wild game cook-off featuring dishes like bear wontons, turtle stew, and opossum. Marlinton's picturesque main street transforms into craft vendor central with an all-day soundtrack of string bands and mountain music. All vendors, including emerging crafters from across WV and outside of the state, are welcome.

Held each September in downtown Princeton, AutumnFest is a one-day celebration of local music, food, culture and heritage. The event takes place on Mercer Street in the Historic Grassroots District of Princeton. Over 100 vendors participate, with food and craft vendors alongside a classic car show, dog show, apple butter-making, and pumpkin pie-eating contest. The event draws over 10,000 attendees. Admission is free.

Held in New Martinsville, Back Home Appalachian Arts and Music Festival happens each June and features live music, arts, and crafts celebrating Appalachian culture. The lineup spans traditional to contemporary acts — expect bluegrass, folk, and regional bands across the festival weekend.

Annual Barbour County agricultural fair

Running for over 40 years, Barboursville Fall Fest in West Virginia brings together a parade, car show, live music, and vendors along Central Avenue through downtown. The Arts & Crafts Show runs the latter two days of the festival, while food and retail vendors set up throughout the three-day event. A solid draw for established community shoppers.

The Barrackville Covered Bridge Festival is in its fifth year, held in June around Father's Day weekend and West Virginia Day. The festival celebrates one of West Virginia's best-known historic bridges, with food vendors, entertainment, crafts, and activities centered around preservation of the iconic structure. What started as a small fundraising effort has grown into a tradition that draws former community members back home. The event features local vendors and activities for people of all ages.

Held in Wadestown, the Battelle District Fair is the oldest running fair in Monongalia County. This family-oriented fair features five nights of live entertainment with food vendors, arts & crafts, animal shows, rides, and a four-wheeler pull.
